MonroeWiki is a user-driven website for the city of Monroe, Michigan. It's designed for residents, by residents. It's a wiki, which means anyone can edit nearly any page at any time.

The idea is borne out of the frustration in finding solid information about nearly anything about Monroe online. Social networks pretend Monroe doesn't exist (instead putting it in Detroit or Ann Arbor), web pages are sparse on business information, and any information searched for is automatically generated from spammy webpages that want to sell you real estate or Viagra or both.

It's also based on the observation that Monroe is poorly represented online and offline. Nobody knows where Monroe is, even folks who live Downriver or go to the University of Michigan. It's a black hole of time, place, and information, and as a resident geek plugged into the 21st century, I find it bloody annoying.

So the challenge is to fill this site up with information. Any information.Know of any good restaurants? Know the departments of City Hall? Keen on local elections or politics? Do you have links regarding newsworthy events? Is the mall really closing? If you know, start writing! It only takes a few minutes.
